Workin’ for the Weekend

by Renee on April 15, 2011

So another Friday is here, and what are you doing this weekend?  Our plate is pretty full, and our bellies will be too–with great beer and plenty of fine food found right here in the #CLE.

Our weekend kicked off a little early last night, with some Thursday evening fun. I was very excited to hear that Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (of Columbus, Ohio, originally) opened a shop today in my little town of Chagrin Falls! Last night they offered a preview with free tastes from 6-9 p.m.  My Mom and I thought we’d stop in for a treat before heading to my girl’s high school musical production of “Beauty & the Beast,” but the line was too long to make it before the show. But if you’re going to be on the East Side of Cleveland this weekend, I recommend dinner in our town at any one of our fine establishments (including the Burntwood Tavern, Hunan by the Falls, Rick’s Café, Jekyll’s or Umami Asian Kitchen among others), taking in a show at the high school (great production!) and then something sweet at Jeni’s!

Tonight I’m going to meet my friend Sally Woz in Hudson for happy hour at the newest venture of Chef Shawn Monday, a burger and beer joint called The Flip Side. We’ve eaten there once before, as well as at his One Red Door finer dining restaurant, and both were wonderful. After a brew or two, we’ll catch Sally’s son in the male lead of Hudson High’s musical, Funny Girl.

On Saturday, join the McNulty’s Bier Market Cleveland Foursquare Celebration with a flash mob at 2 p.m.! I understand there will be some great specials, and surprises throughout the afternoon. We’ll try to hit that before heading to dinner at The Greenhouse Tavern at East 4th Street with friends–we’re popping in before a concert at House of Blues. (And what exciting news for Cleveland that Greenhouse proprietor Jonathon Sawyer is opening a yummy new venture called Noodlecat! Can’t wait to try that on another weekend once it opens.)

After spending Saturday night rockin’ with KT Tunstall (Black Horse and the Cherry Tree is probably her best known song), we’ll wake up Sunday and head back downtown to Touch Supper Club for brunch with Brad (and his fiancée Michaelene) of Cleveland Food and Brews. When we attended an Emerging Chefs dinner back in February that featured Touch’s Chef Jeff Fisher, we decided then that we needed to get to the restaurant for their famed brunch. It took us this long to come up with a weekend date that worked!

Sunday is also the day for the next C-Town Chowdown, a gathering of some of the best food trucks in the city at Lincoln Park. Since we already had plans made for Sunday, we’ll just have to get to the next one. But if you’d like to go, I heard the inaugural event last month was quite good. I’ll look forward to catching it soon.

Okay, so I ask you again: what are you doing this weekend? Don’t forget to get your taxes done. But after that, there’s plenty of fun to be had whether you’re in the #CLE or elsewhere, I’m sure.  Cheers!

Willoughby Brewing for dinner tonight; the Peanut Butter Coffee Porter will duke it out with Moonshadow IPA for the right to come home in my growler.

Also just grabbed a bottle of Hoppin’ Frog’s Triple Hop Dam and Great Divide’s Anniversary Wood Aged Double IPA, both at Heinen’s on Green. As of 12:30, the CBW 12-packs had not arrived, but expected between then and 3:00.

Busy lady! Sounds like a great weekend. I love KT Tunstall…personally “Suddenly I See” is my fave of her songs.

Tonight, we’re going to dinner at Table 45 to celebrate CLEguy’s new job. Tomorrow is crazy day – running my first 5K, a friend’s baby shower, then dinner with Brad, Alicia, and Steph at Palate. Sunday, we’re doing fondue and Wii at a friend’s house.

Have a good one!

We didn’t make it to KT’s part of the act. I must be getting old, couldn’t stand around waiting until after 10pm! Hope your weekend was great~

Lots of fun (and delicious) stuff going on! Enjoy brunch at Touch, it’s one of our favorite Sunday brunch spots in our area. We’ll be snacking at the Chow Down as long as the lines are moving.

We too missed out on Jeni’s last night, which I figured would happen. That’s why we made sure to be down there for another reason that evening- dinner at Umami! We enjoyed a great meal, but wimped out when we saw that the line was still so long at 8:15 p.m. Looking forward to sampling some scoops this summer!

Got back on Sunday, and Jeni’s was delicious! Can’t wait to go back to try some of the other flavors. Let me know when you get to town! (We also loved brunch at Touch.)
