The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

by Renee on November 29, 2010

I’m not a huge fan of winter in Northeast Ohio, but I do like the holiday party season, and snow on my town’s Christmas tree. If only it would go away after New Year’s Day. But there are a lot of fun things happening in December that I’m looking forward to, and there are several events going on that you are welcome to come along and join in the fun!

This Wednesday, at the Winking Lizard in Independence, a few local Cleveland area beer bloggers (such as Cleveland Hops and CleFoodandBrews) and tweeps are getting together to raise a few in sudsy solidarity. Just today the Lizard posted this: “The Independence Winking Lizard will be the Stone Brewing Co. HQ Wednesday Dec. 1st as we will offer Levitation Ale, Smoked Porter and two limited draft selections for the first time at the Lizard–Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale and Double Dry Hopped Ruination IPA. It’s The Stone Load while supplies last!”  Here’s the link if you’d like to RSVP on Facebook.

On Thursday, Voldemort returns to Cleveland to face his former teammates as the Cavs take on the Miami Heat. (Who wants to be a Heat? That’s just stupid.) There are bound to be viewing parties across the 216 if you don’t have tickets to the game (I don’t). The best part of The Decision was that it spawned two beers: Quitness from Great Lakes Brewing Company and Witless from Buckeye Beer. Hopefully someone had the good sense to have saved some for this week’s big matchup. (I didn’t.)

On Tuesday, December 7th, the Emerging Chefs are offering their Prohibition Party–on the 77th anniversary of the end of Prohibition, of course! It’s going to be held at the Speakeasy at the Bier Market, and guys are asked to dress in their finest haberdashery while gals are encouraged to wear the LBD. I already have my ticket and it looks like a good time.

Of course the rest of the calendar month is dotted with parties both personal and professional–and I am feeling festive. Hope to see you out and about this holiday season if you’re in the CLE, where we can raise a glass to another year of good beer. Just remember, staying on Santa’s Nice List means being a little bit naughty, too. Cheers!
