Summer is sweet in Northeast Ohio–and these warm summer days and nights are flying by. I’m finding it hard to believe what the calendar is telling me. This year it has been especially crazy, since we put an offer on a house– and we’ve been spending every spare moment packing boxes and going through all the things we’ve accumulated in the past six years in our current home. We’ve also been watching the family budget as we’ve been saving for the down payment and closing costs.
So far our only vacation was a weekend trip with friends to the Hocking Hills–the ziplining was great, I highly recommend it! There is still no week-long trip to the ocean in sight, but there is an August weekend rafting/camping trip planned for my husband, Paul and son; and a couple of East Coast college visits set up for me and my girl. The rest of our “vacation” is going to be spent working on the new place: I just heard today we can close at the end of this week! I’m so excited!
This weekend, I am going to make time to attend the Great Lakes Burning River Fest for a few hours this Saturday, and I look forward to seeing a lot of my beer friends there. I haven’t been able to attend half the beer events I’ve wanted to so far this summer — and since (my crazy big Italian) family comes first, I’m going to miss a few more due to my mom’s Oliva family and Paul’s DeLuca family reunions in the coming weeks.
However, I am happy to report that I did make it to a meetup with Ashley Routson, The Beer Wench, when she and Dan Del Grande, the head brewer of organic Bison Beer, were in town for a quick marketing visit. We raised a few pints at the Beer Engine with some of the usual crowd, and had a great time catching up! (The Bison IPA was especially tasty, and please ask Brad from Cleveland Food and Brews about Flower Power.) I hope to hit a few more meet ups before summer slips away, crazy family obligations notwithstanding.
And one last note–if you’re looking for some summer reading, the latest issue of All About Beer has an article about Jack! I look forward to picking it up. What do you have planned before Labor Day rolls around? Cheers!
