March Madness Ahead: #CBC2011

by Renee on March 6, 2011

March is here, and with it a few last snowflakes, March madness college hoops, and hopes for spring to start showing itself more fully here in Northeast Ohio. This week brings Fat Tuesday revelry (that means paczkis here in Cleveland) and not far behind is the fun of St. Patrick’s Day–working downtown I always try to get to the city’s annual parade. Also, today is my grandfather John McAuliffe’s 97th birthday–I’m happy to have his genetics on my side.

But what I’m most looking forward to this month is the annual Craft Brewers Conference, organized and presented by the Brewers Association. This will be my first trip to the conference, and it’s being held in one of my favorite cities to visit, San Francisco, from March 23-27. The keynote address by Fritz Maytag and Ken Grossman is something I’m very much interested in hearing. And I’m thrilled to be speaking on the topic of social media, marketing and craft breweries, along with historian and author Maureen Ogle, who will offer her own perspective. Our talk, “The Long View of the Big Picture,”  is being given on Saturday, March 26, and we hope more than a few folks will join us the morning after what I’m sure will be an exciting Friday night out in such a beer-friendly town.

Most exciting to me is not only that will I finally get to meet Maureen, whom I’ve known through correspondence and phone calls over the years; and spend time with my favorite aunt, Cathy McAuliffe Dickerson, Jack’s sister; but that I will get to be with Jack! Maureen, Cathy and I all convinced him he needed to go west and have a beer with the many folks he inspired those many years ago, with the founding of the New Albion Brewing Company. Jack’s already said he wants to show us around to some of his favorite Northern California haunts, and something tells me a good time is in store. I’m also looking forward to learning as much as I can by attending as many presentations as I can, touring some breweries, and catching up with a few fellow beer bloggers, whom I met back in November at the inaugural Beer Blogger’s Conference in Boulder, CO. Oh, and did I mention tasting a few beers? Yeah, that too.

If you’re heading to the event, I hope to raise a beer or two with you as well! Drop me a comment here if you’re planning on making the trip. Or tweet me, and use the hashtag #CBC2011.  Here’s to honoring craft beer and welcoming spring in San Francisco with our own brand of March madness!

March is a fun month with Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, and of course March Madness!! Also, it means baseball is right around the corner.

Thanks for your passion! It’s people like you that make these conferences fun. I was on the bus on our way back to the hotel after the Academy of Sciences. Hope to chat with you again sometime.
Thanks
