Craft Beer Community

by Renee on April 9, 2011

One of the most amazing things that has come out of my writing this blog is the craft beer community I’ve found myself a part of here in Northeast Ohio and beyond. I have said over and over that Beer People are Good People, and it’s true. I have found other craft beer bloggers and “tweeps” such as Brad Gillette of Cleveland Food and Brews, Kyle Roth of Cleveland Hops, Robert Massie of Bobby Likes Beer and the marketing gals Kami and Lauren at Great Lakes Brewing Company to be welcoming, and we have such a good time together– it isn’t a competitive kind of thing at all. Each of us brings our own voices and our own perspective to the brew world, and each is respected–whether blogging for fun, profit or as part of our job–or some combination of those things.

I also found an easy camaraderie with the women of the Pink Boots Society at the Craft Brewers Conference, as well as the ladies from Girls Pint Out I met in Boulder at the first ever Beer Bloggers Conference (and now in NE Ohio, as we establish a GPO chapter here). I have to say, women in craft beer rock hard.

On Facebook, we’ve created a Cleveland Craft Beer Group, and each month one of us has stepped up to plan an outing for our fellow good beer lovers by working with a local establishment to offer special deals and opportunities to try some new things. April’s event is going to be at the Buckeye Beer Engine, and I hope we attract some new faces! I know that in May we may be looking at doing something with the Cleveland Indians; and in June, I’m organizing a get together at the Burntwood Tavern in Chagrin Falls (hoping for good patio weather!).

If you’ve been lurking in the beer threads on Twitter or just reading beer blogs without commenting, or if you’ve been a part of an online brew group without stopping out and saying hello in person, you’re missing out on some fun and interesting company. Social media has never been so social as it is with this group of fellow craft beer lovers–great people I’ve met all because of my beery little corner of the World Wide Web. Cheers!

I’ll echo what Kyle has already said. I’d also like to add that rarely does a day go by where my life isn’t enriched by a person that I’ve bonded with over a mutual love of craft beer. It borders on ridiculous, really! Beer people really are good people. Generous, caring and a heckuva lot of fun to be with!

Totally agree. Turning point for me was the first craft beer meet up I went to in December at the Winking Lizard with all of you and getting to meet everyone in person!
