CLE Beer Week–Bigger & Beerier Than Ever!

by Renee on October 3, 2014

cbw-logo-mainJust six years ago Cleveland Beer Week began on the North Coast, and this year, organizers have really outdone themselves with over 350 brew-related activities on the calendar, at over 125 venues–adding an extra day to accomodate even more flagship beer events! That’s a lot of fun and suds! Of course, I’m most excited about the re-release of New Albion Ale with Platform Beer Company on Friday, October 17th. But whether you’re an East-sider, a West-sider, a downtown dweller, or someone who doesn’t mind crossing the Cuyahoga and hitting it all–you are going to find an event or two that’s right for you. You can even feel good going to all these flagship events, knowing that proceeds benefit the Jimmy Malone Scholarship Program. So drink up!

Once again, we get this party started with the Collaboration Kickoff in several area neighborhoods, including E. 4th Street, Lakewood, Tremont, Ohio City and Cedar/Lee. (The Cedar/Lee event takes place on Oct. 11th, all the other kickoffs happen on Oct. 10th.) For $25/per person (advance sales) you can visit various neighborhood haunts for a taste of a different collaboration beer:

  • Yadig?, a Berliner Hopfen-Weiss with 4.8% ABV by Great Lakes Brewing Company and Oskar Blues Brewery of Longmont, Colorado.
  • OH-MI!, an English Mild Ale with 4.5% ABV by Buckeye Brewing and Saugatuck Brewing Company of Douglas, Michigan.
  • Brooklyn Dog, a Saison with 4% ABV by Thirsty Dog Brewing Co. and Brooklyn Brewery of Brooklyn, New York.
  • Fat Devil, a Black India Pale Lager (IPL) with 6% by Fat Heads Brewery and Devils Backbone Brewing Company of Roseland, Virginia.
  • Dead Canary, a Grisette Ale with 4% ABV by The Brew Kettle and Full Pint Brewing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Other Flagship Events include a Belgian Social; the Ales on Rails ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad; a big Browns/Steelers Tailgate party; and my personal favorite, the beer and cheese pairing party, Culture Yourself, this year happening at the historic West Side Market.  They’ve added a Rock and Brew Showcase at the Beachland Ballroom; the Offshore Pour on the Nautica Queen; Oskar Blues Can Jam at the Cleveland Agora; and the ever-popular BREWzilla, A Monster of a Beer Tasting at the 5th Street Arcades, a new venue this year.

The entire week is extended to Sunday, Oct. 19th with the Bluegrass Brew Bash on Whiskey Island from noon to 5 p.m. Local and regional bluegrass acts will take the stage while you sip a pint or two and enjoy food truck fare of all kinds. You can create your own itinerary and buy tickets to all of these flagship events, directly at the website: www.clevelandbeerweek.org.

So, Cleveland craft beer fans, here’s your chance to win tickets to your choice of two Flagship events: the Collaboration Kickoff (Ohio City neighborhood) or BREWzilla, a Monster of a Beer Tasting. Please leave me a comment here about which event you’d like to attend and why you’re excited about Cleveland Beer Week! I’ll draw a random winner for the Ohio City Collaboration Kickoff on Weds., Oct. 8th at noon; and then another winner for the BREWzilla tickets on Weds., Oct. 15th at noon. For an additional chance at winning, please Tweet me: “I want to win tickets to Cleveland Beer Week from @BrewersDaughter!”  (NOTE: I have been offered Kickoff and Brewzilla tickets in exchange for promotion of these events. All comments are my own opinion. This is Cleveland’s moment to shine in the craft beer world, don’t miss out!)

Cheers~hope to see you at the Platform Beer/New Albion Ale party on October 17th at 6 p.m.–meet Jack and taste history!

This is a really tough call, as I would love to go to both. However, if I must pick one, it would be Brewzilla!

I also Tweeted it (not sure if I was supposed to make a second post for that, so feel free to delete if I wasn’t!)

I agree – a real tough choice, but I will also pick Brewzilla! Both of these events are FANTASTIC! This year adding the out-of state componet is a real treat. Can’t wait to hit the Lakewood event. A great opportunity for folks to come out and see the newer breweries and also discover some great beers!!

I have been dreaming about BREWzilla for years and can never seem to make it. Maybe dreams do come true!

I want to go to Brewzilla but I can’t. But I’m up for the collaboration event.

Oh what fun! I’m always out of town for Beer Week, but this year my schedule worked much better. I’m excited to finally get to try some of the awesome things Cleveland has to offer! I think I’d lean slightly more towards the Ohio City event, but really I’m sure either would be delightful.

I am very excited about CLE beer week, looking forward to Brewzilla. It’s like Halloween, going from table to table tasting samples like treats.! This is the best time of year for beer in Cleveland

Looking forward to my road trip from Maryland for a weekend of Beer and Cleveland. BrewZilla would be a great way to end our weekend before the drive back on Sunday!

I love Beer Week, because I have the chance to try so many new-to-me beers in smaller samples. I always find at least one that I love. I’d like to attend BREWzilla. We missed it last year.

I’ve only heard about BrewZilla, but it sounds right up my alley. I read the list of brewers/beers and it sounds absolutely amazing! Plus, every year I make a trek up for #CBW with a friend and it is one of our most anticipated get togethers of the year.

I would love to win tickets to this year’s BrewZilla. It is, without a doubt, the premier craft beer event in Ohio each year. As a craft beer fanatic, BrewZilla would provide me with a unique opportunity to sample beers while speaking with the great brewers behind them, getting the tips and insights that you can’t get from a bottle. I also hope to start homebrewing in the near future, and this type of firsthand interaction with master brewers is invaluable. Moreover, as a recent grad school graduate with a ton of student loans, free tickets to BrewZilla would also be great for me from an economic perspective. It would be completely unfeasible and beyond my means to buy a six pack or 22oz bottle of each of the beers available at BrewZilla to see which ones I like. But being able to try such a large selection and wide variety of beers would allow me to explore new breweries and new beer styles that I may not try otherwise without the additional upfront expense as a deterrent.

The Culture yourself event sounds like fun this year.

I will have to rearrange my schedule, but attending Brewzilla for first time will be completely worth it.

I would LOVE to attend Bewzilla! It would be a great night out without the kids. 😉

I completely agree with you that this year’s Culture Yourself event will be more spectacular than ever since it is at such a historical gem! I would have to pick the Brewzilla event out of the two to win. I would love to go this year because it is at the east 5th st arcade and the list looks phenomenal. I can’t decide what my first beer stop would be if I won!

I’d like to win tickets to both, but I’ll pick the collaboration kickoff. In the past my favorite event has been the greenhouse tavern’s beer dinners, I’m hoping to choose another great beer dinner this year. Also, you may see me dressed up in a halloween costume at brewzilla; I was there dressed as a turkey last year.

I would love to win tickets to Brewzilla. And why am I excited about beer week? Because it’s beer week, silly.

Scot Orloff October 8, 2014 at 12:08 pm

I already bought my tickets for the Collaboration Kickoff so I’d like to have the Brewzilla tix. I seem to celebrate CBW 52 weeks out of the year but this one week is super special because I get to run in to so many others in the community. Best time of the year! Cheers!

I would lIke to attend Brewzilla because I’ve never been there before and unfortunately cannot afford the admission price (broke college student life). CBW is such a great time in this area because it allows people to indulge in things they might otherwise not get to try very often. It also showcases the great brews we are pushing out locally.

I want to win brewzilla tickets because this is my first Cleveland beer week and I want to go out with a bang!

So I’m certain my untappd app will earn me every badge in Cleveland at BREWzilla…but the most important reason I want to attend BREWzilla is to “culture myself” (no pun intended off the other flagship event). There is such a rich selection of beers and what an awesome location too! Cheers!

I would be honored big time if I won tickets to the best event of the year in Cleveland, BREWzilla!! I went last year for the first time ever and had a blast. All the different beers are heaven in my mouth!! It is a great event for the city and the great people of this city.
