Brewing Up Some Summer Fun

brewpubSummer keeps rolling on, and the fun keeps coming. Lots of beery good times so far, and more ahead! So far I’ve traveled to New York City for Savor; Delaware for the Firefly Music Fest, sponsored by Dogfish Head; visited Cellar Rats Brewery on a summer Sunday; and saw the Eagles on tour–Joe Walsh just killed it, and all their voices are still as good as ever. Just this past week I attended a 25th anniversary dinner at Great Lakes Brewing Company and the first World Beer Festival held in Cleveland, sponsored by All About Beer magazine. Last night I spoke to some ladies at the Loretta Paganini School of Cooking about the history of craft beer, and we enjoyed some New Albion Ale. They were a great audience.

Savor was amazing, and the Big Apple was as fun as I’d hoped. Firefly’s highlight was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers–and a little timeWorld Beer Fest at the Dogfish Rehoboth Beach brewpub. I truly enjoyed the beer and food pairings at the Great Lakes dinner, and the history and perspective offered by GLBC founder Pat Conway. (And the short rib braised in Edmund Fitzgerald Porter was nearly better than sex, I swear.) The World Beer Fest left a few things to be desired, but you really can’t beat all that beer on a sunny day on Lake Erie, and it was really cool to see Jack’s cover feature at the All About Beer table. And it’s always fun to talk about craft beer to new audiences–thanks to Stefanie Paganini for the jack maginvitation to speak to her book club.

Coming up soon, I have a trip to Lake Chautauqua–and plans to visit the Southern Tier brewery for the first time. I adore their Pumking and love many of their other beers. Looking forward to checking out their brewpub. And at the end of the month, I’m really looking forward to attending the Beer Bloggers Conference in Boston. My beery godfather (as I think of him), ┬áJim Koch, is going to be a key note speaker, and I get to say a few words about New Albion too.

I hope you’re enjoying these days of summer as much as I am. I’m trying to remember the wise words of Ferris Bueller as I savor every minute, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
