It’s time for another Ohio Blogging Association blog swap, and today my guest poster is Charlene Coughlin from Life in the CLE! Her blog is a look at all things Cleveland, from a young professional’s perspective. We decided that patio time in Cleveland was a great subject to tackle — you’ll find my post on her blog today as well.
Happy Summer! With Summer comes patio drinking, which means it’s the season for some of my favorite beers and cocktails.
So what exactly do I drink when I’m out on one of the lovely patios that Cleveland has to offer? Honestly, it all depends on my mood for the day but in the summer, I have a pretty serious rotation. If it’s a beer drinking day, it’s a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy for me. In fact, once Opening Day hits, Summer Shandy is usually my go-to. It just tastes like Summer (the way that Great Lakes Christmas Ale reminds me of winter, Thanksgiving and Christmas).
Of course, I like my usual mixed drink and this summer my drink of choice is the mojito. Cool and refreshing, plus there are so many new flavors that are offered at many of my favorite Cleveland bars and restaurants. One of the best I’ve had to date is from one of the city’s newest hot spots–Hodge’s Cleveland – he perfected the mojito and it’s now become my go-to when I eat at Hodge’s.
Other Summer drink must-haves? Skinnygirl Margarita and Skinnygirl Sangria. Both of these taste like juice to me but are the perfect amount of alcohol and flavor.
And last but not least, a new drink which falls under the beer mixology category: a CoronaRita. I love Margaritas. And I love
Corona. Which makes this the perfect summer drink for laying out on the beach, sitting on a boat or at a summer cookout. I cannot wait to make these for friends this summer when we are patio drinking and cooking out.
A couple recipes for those of you out there brave enough to make your own CoronaRitas:
Basic:
2 bottles Corona Light
1 1/2 C. good tequila
12 oz. frozen lime juice concentrate
salt for glass rim, if desired
Mix and serve (I prefer frozen for the summer)
Raspberry CoronaRita:
1 cup frozen or fresh raspberries
1 bottle (12 oz) of chilled Corona beer (other beers may be used)
1/2 container (6 oz) frozen raspberry lemonade concentrate
1/2 cup raspberry vodka (plain or other fruit flavored vodka would work)
1 cup ice – varies on desired consistency
Garnish with fresh raspberries, and/or lemon or lime wedges
Directions:
In a blender, add the first four ingredients and blend until desired consistency. Put ice in your favorite cocktail glass, add the cocktail then garnish and ENJOY!
*Plan Ahead: To make ahead, mix the raspberry lemonade and vodka and chill up to 2 days. Before serving, stir in beer and garnish, enjoy.

Greetings!
Love Summer in Cleveland….Love to sip on a Patio!
A “beergarita” is a terrific summertime drink -chilly, citrus, refreshing, cooling especially mixed with Budapest Blonde’s BEACH BLONDE Margarita & Mojito cocktail mix. The BEACH BLONDE is a natural juice-based product made from white grape juice & lime, and is very low in sodium, sugar and calories.
Salt the rim of a chilled glass – add your favorite light ale and top with BEACH BLONDE, garnish with a lime. Cheers!
Now I’m THIRSTY! Great choices! I’d love to sip sometime with you

Leinenkugel’s BerryWeis is one of my favorites. Summer Shandy is on the list to try.
Yum! CoronaRitas and Summer Shandy for all!
